In 2015, Kelsi Boyd searched for locally sourced and cleaner alternatives to traditional Big Box soap and skincare products. Living in Mason County (WV) at the time, she either had to commute to find them or get creative. Choosing the latter, the Silver Market Company was born.

Through a series of video watching and trial experimentation, Boyd began to manufacture and gift to friends and family sustainable and plant-based skincare products — products that she is proud to say are “made in West Virginia.”

When the demand for healthier alternatives grew, Boyd explored the market through pop-up shops, online branding, and a small farmer’s market stand in New Haven.

“Silver Market Co. happened by accident,” said Boyd. “And coincidentally became my silver lining.

Silver Market Co. products are made from 100% raw and natural ingredients and are free of toxins, parabens, GMOs, sulfates, artificial dyes, and fragrances. Each product is crafted for sensitive and problematic skin and uses “only the finest ingredients including pure therapeutic grade essential oils, earth clays, herbs, and botanicals.”

Born and raised in Mason County, West Virginia, Boyd has more than an affinity for Appalachia — for her, it’s home.

Inheriting homesteading techniques from her family, she desired to honor the women and Appalachian heritage that had such a formative impact on her growing up. Boyd continues to utilize these skills in every new product.

“When you start a business, it’s hard to determine your targeted audience, reach, confidence, support, and things like that,” said Boyd. “The community of Point Pleasant offered that immediately.”

The idea of “community” continues to play an essential role in the grassroots model of the market and remains a fixture of the brand’s marketing model and development.

Though humble in its beginnings, the company now operates out of its own retail and manufacturing space. Consumers can find Boyd’s products in various boutiques across the state or from the Silver Market Company’s primary location at 215 6th Street in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
