Tammy was born and raised in the small town of Laeger, WV (pronounced yeager). Tammy grew up in a home where reading was encouraged from an early age. Furthering her education was important to her parents because they were never afforded the opportunity to go beyond 5th and 8th grade. However, they each had profound respect for learning and education – passing those traits on to Tammy.

Tammy is a graduate of Concord University with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. She primarily taught in Tazewell County, VA and Mercer County, WV. Tammy retired early in 2014 and has lived in the Mercer County area for most of the past 42 years.
Tammy is the mother of three sons and “MiMi” to three grandchildren who all love to read. Alongside her eldest son, Tammy has owned The Hatter’s Bookshop since 2016. In 2019, they purchased the building next door from their previous location. Yes – Tammy moved an entire bookstore. No – she won’t be doing that again. She loves being a part of the significant growth and improvement of downtown Princeton and looks forward to what the future holds for the area.
