Recent Positively West Virginia guest, Johnny McFadden, is leading the medical cannabis industry for West Virginia.
When Johnny heard that West Virginia would be legalizing medical cannabis as a student at WVU, he knew he had to jump on the opportunity. The policies allowing cannabis in the state were first signed in 2017 and have presented relentless challenges for the industry so far. Now, the industry leaders in the state are patiently and eagerly awaiting the final permit approvals, hopefully, to come this summer.
Johnny is a West Virginia native, and that’s how he plans to stay. He loves living in the state and is ready to start meeting the needs of West Virginia patients. Johnny said, “Our mission is to advance the health of West Virginians through targeted medical dispensaries.” He plans to put medical-grade cannabis on shelves as soon as possible to help change the lives of those with qualifying conditions.
Getting public approval of the cannabis industry has been one of the most challenging parts of the business so far. Johnny said, “I’m just envisioning the day we can cut ribbons and finally give these people the relief they’ve been looking for.”
While trying to get his business off the ground, Johnny has spent countless hours talking with communities to assure them of the medicinal stability and benefits of cannabis for the patients who need it most.
Although it has been challenging to win the approval of cannabis throughout West Virginia, the promise of economic development, job opportunities and recommendations from medical facilities is still winning the vote of many communities. In addition, the introduction of medical cannabis into the state could create an entirely new source of revenue and opportunity for West Virginians.
Johnny’s passion for his business and desire to build a new industry paves the way for success. He attributes much of his momentum to mentors and other people he simply reached out to for advice. Johnny highly suggests talking to as many people as possible, being genuine and constantly learning as much as possible to form a successful enterprise that grows with the community around it.
