Embracing Growth and Community: A Conversation with Zach Ueltschy, CEO of United Federal Credit Union
At the helm of United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) is Zach Ueltschy, a West Virginian whose leadership reflects a deep commitment to both his community and his members. Starting as a staff accountant nine years ago, Zach has risen to CEO, leading a thriving credit union that prioritizes relationships over transactions.
A Hometown Leader with a Service-First Approach
Growing up in Pine Grove, West Virginia, Zach learned early on the value of community. With degrees from West Virginia University and Liberty University, his career in accounting eventually led him to UFCU, where he worked under the mentorship of former CFO Mike Singewald. This experience helped him shape his leadership style and vision for the credit union.
United Federal Credit Union: A Member-Owned Experience
Founded in 1973, UFCU serves over 6,100 members with branches in Cheat Lake, Star City, Union Town, and Mount Pleasant. What makes UFCU unique is its member-owned structure, which translates into better rates and lower fees. “When you become a member, you become an owner,” Zach explains, reinforcing that UFCU exists solely to serve its members’ financial needs.
Building Relationships Beyond Transactions
Zach’s philosophy is clear: UFCU is about building lasting relationships. “We want to be a partner in your financial journey, not just another place for transactions,” he says. Staff members take the time to get to know each member, fostering trust and personalized service.
Growth and Innovation for the Future
While Zach acknowledges the rise of online banks, UFCU remains focused on balancing innovation with personal service. “We’re investing in technology like Apple Pay and Google Pay while maintaining our commitment to member-first service,” Zach says. With a strong capital position, UFCU is well-prepared to offer competitive rates and lower fees while continuing to grow.
Deep Commitment to Community
UFCU’s investment goes beyond banking. “We’re here to support local causes and organizations that make a difference,” says Zach. UFCU is proud to be a part of the communities it serves, striving to improve lives through partnerships and service.
Looking Ahead
Under Zach’s leadership, UFCU is poised for continued growth. His focus is on enhancing the member experience with competitive rates, innovative products, and personalized attention. “It’s about more than numbers; it’s about helping our members achieve their dreams,” he reflects.
